Youth F.I.T. Farm camp
(F.I.T. = Farmer In Training )
In today's world, we have all but lost many of the traditional farming rites of passage as we have moved from an agrarian society to an urban society.
Idyllic Slak Market Farm is the closest you will come to re-creating the comforting rituals and daily rhythms only experienced on a working farm.
We see the value in many of our agricultural traditions that mark a transition from a child on the farm to a fully contributing member of the farming tribe.
Farm Camp at Slak Market Farm is a fun-filled learning experience where your child will spend the week fully immersed in the daily workings of our farm.
Campers will spend 1 week here on our farm, learning how to interact and understand where their food comes from, and to impart a greater appreciation for the effort that farmers make to grow healthy, fresh food, and also have a basic understanding of how food directly affects how we feel.
Your child has the option to attend Farm Camp for one-week, Monday thru Friday, from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM and due to covid measures there is a limit of 12 kids per camp and so we are making 5 camps available this year.
Below is a short sample overview of each of the days:
Daily - bottle feed the baby calves, collect eggs and feed the chicks and move the chicken mobile coops, Journaling. A healthy snack & water will be served daily and the farm will provide lunch on Friday only.
. ● Monday - Learn all about and hold chickens, turkeys, and help care for the baby chicks.
● Tuesday - Care for and milk the cows and use the milk straight from the cows to help make yogurt, butter, cream cheese and or ice cream!
● Wednesday - Spend the day learning all about the goats and sheep.
● Thursday - Visit our greenhouse and or vegetable garden and learn about and help care for the plants.
● Friday - Learn about the importance of our "living" soil, honey bees, meet and maybe get to ride the donkey Sisco. Friday lunch we make pizza from our garden veggies and fresh cheese. Play around and re-visit all the animals.
Please forward and share this page to others who will be interested in having their kids learn about caring for animals, plants, and nourishing food.
How sweet it is!
Producing products for this herd share comes with its own portion of highs and lows.
This one however is definitely a winner and we are taking it home for the team!
Taylor is one of many herd share owners who Loves to rule in her kitchen. So, it’s no surprise that when this recipe was passed to me for making creamy caramel out of our Raw Milk Whey, Taylor warmly accepted the invitation to master it.
I can't say it enough "that I am so fortunate & blessed to belong to a tribe of women, who have a covenant to not only protect but also to toil, for the integrity of the products we offer in this share".
I am so ecstatic to see caramel made from our signature Raw Milk Whey!
Best of all, we have plenty of Lebaneh to play with! So, I created a
“Taylor-Made Whey Caramel” Recipe Guide
to lead you off to a good start in combining these two fantastic products!
Have fun & please be sure to let me know how it turns out!

"Back to the Future!"
With this pandemic our farm has been greatly impacted by the loss in agritourism, events, campaign plans, etc. However, what I mean by impact is not at all a negative thing.
Although our way forward through this pandemic is still emerging & evolving daily, one thing is for sure...
The need to be a part of a family farm has never been more relevant!
I hope you can feel what I’m saying. Something is happening here that has made us just stop and from that pause, I have felt a “reset”. Like self-regulation is happening and through all of this, I realize that we are now to make our way
Back to the Future ~ A Regenerative Sustainable Future!
When we look at patterns of dominance of a species in nature, self-regulation happens continually. We can learn from its adaptation and allow that same mentality to be applied to our own lives.
We can come through this as a changed community who adopted the sustainable concept of consuming less, buying local, and choosing better by exercising our most basic rights as inhabitants of a planet that we are privileged to call our home!
It’s time we do better than this horrific dominance of endlessly increasing industries created to support our ever-fulfilling lifestyles.
Starting with leaving a dominant industrial enslaving economic food system as well as then supporting better choices throughout every industry within our community!
That being said... Life is waiting for you right here at Slak Market Farm!
We actually have - 2 Maids a’Milkin, the Butcher, the Baker, and yes even a Candlestick Maker!
Our farms herd share is ready to bring your family into the fold and position all of us up for a positive future ahead.
We’re operating this farm to share with your family.
This is your soft place to fall!
As your farmer I want you to know that you can depend on the reliability of our herd share to provide you with the products your family needs most to develop and maintain a naturally strong healthy immune system.
